In a new series of educational webinars our SIS-E Education Commitee aims to provide updates on the latest research and new insights on topics related to surgical infections.

For this first webinar on Pancreatitis, we have two experts renowned for their expertise on the subject, who will provide an update and review of the literature on the management of acute and chronic pancreatitis.  Following the presentation there will be time for questions and discussion with the expert panel.

Speakers

Professor Marc Besselink

Prof Marc Besseink is HPB surgeon and professor of pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery in the Amsterdam UMC. He was trained as surgeon at Utrecht University in the Netherlands combined and completed a Master in Evidence Based Healthcare at the University of Oxford. He was a fellow at the Amsterdam UMC and Southampton University Hospital training in minimally invasive HPB surgery specializing in pancreatic surgery. He is the 2021-2023 president elect for the E-AHPBA besides being a co-founder of the Dutch Pancreatitis Study Group, Dutch Pancreatic Cancer Group and European Consortium on Minimally Invasive Pancreatic Surgery. His research is focused on clinical and translational studies in the fields of pancreatic cancer, pancreatitis and (minimally invasive) HPB surgery.

 

Dr Yama Issa

Dr Yama Issa obtained his PhD on novel concepts in diagnostics and treatment of chronic pancreatitis in 2017. He coordinated the nationwide ESCAPE trial and the CARE Registry study. During his PhD research he trained to also become a registered clinical epidemiologist. Since then he has started surgical training in the Amsterdam university medical center participated and supervised research in the field of chronic pancreatitis and has been attached to the Dutch pancreatitis research group as post-doctoral researcher.
