Welcome to SIS-E 2026

Dear Colleagues, Friends, and Members of the SIS-E Community,

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the Surgical Infection Society Europe (SIS-E) Annual Congress, taking place from 16–18 September in the beautiful city of Porto, Portugal. We are delighted to gather once again to share knowledge, strengthen collaborations, and advance our common mission of improving patient care in the field of surgical infections.

This year’s congress features an innovative and forward-looking scientific programme, showcasing the latest clinical advances in infection prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Through expert lectures, interactive sessions, debates, and hands-on opportunities, participants will explore emerging challenges and the most up-to-date evidence guiding clinical practice. The programme reflects SIS-E’s ongoing commitment to excellence, scientific rigour, and meaningful real-world impact.

SIS-E brings together Europe’s leading experts with a special interest in surgical infections—and distinguished colleagues from around the world—across multiple clinical specialties. Our collective expertise supports the development of high-quality guidelines and drives essential education and awareness initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for patients with infections. The congress provides a unique opportunity to engage directly with these leaders, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and perspectives.

Beyond the scientific sessions, we warmly encourage you to take full advantage of the congress’s networking opportunities. Whether reconnecting with long-standing collaborators or meeting new colleagues, these interactions are an essential part of the SIS-E community. We are also pleased to highlight the prizes that will be awarded for our SIS-E Olympics case report contest, the best Oral Free Paper and the ‘BJS prize’ thanks to our strategic partnership collaboration with BJS. We aim to celebrate outstanding contributions from researchers, clinicians, and young investigators who are shaping the future of the field.

We look forward to welcoming you to Porto. Thank you for joining us and for your dedication to advancing the science and practice of infection management.

With warm regards,
Ines Rubio Perez
