Purpose

The aim of this interactive case-based workshop is to help students, residents and young surgeons to better understand the physiopathology, diagnosis and treatment of infection in surgical patients.

Aims

  1. Update on main subjects on surgical infections, that will have a direct application in your daily clinical practice.
  2. Improve skills of presentation, discussion and oral communication by a chaired discussion of real-life case-settings.

Participants & Chairs

You can participate if you are a medical student, resident or young surgeon with a special interest in surgical infections.

The workshop session will be chaired by members of the SIS-E Educational Committee and the Council. These experts will energize and encourage the case discussions and highlight important topics and take-home messages.

Workshop Methodology

After a brief introduction by the chairs, six clinical cases will be presented and discussed. Each presenter will have 10 minutes to present the case (in power point slides) and highlight key steps to diagnosis, treatment and specific aspects related to infection.

All participants will be free to ask questions or comments on alternative treatment options. Key aspects of each case and take-home messages will be highlighted by the chairs.

The workshop is free to attend for Congress delegates!! We welcome Non-Congress delegates to participate also, please register for €20 via the Congress Registration page.

You will be asked to confirm attendance prior to the workshop in order to organize logistics, venue and coffee break by May 2018.

Prizes

During the workshop, the 6 presented cases will be evaluated by the chairs, considering quality of the oral presentation, adequacy to time (10 minutes) and participation in the active discussion.

The best presenter will be awarded with free publication of the case report (worth 500$) in the Journal of Surgical Infections Case Reports. No more than 10-12 references. There may be up to 4 tables or figures.)

Members of the SIS-E Council will act as reviewers to guarantee the case is up to the journal’s standards.
