Important information regarding the coronavirus
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on our lives, and we will need time to cope with the situation and gradually resume the ‘new normal’. As a Society, we assume our responsibility to be a model of social distancing, follow official guidelines and avoid the spread of the virus. With this in mind, we postponed our annual meeting this year from June to September 2020, hoping for an improvement in the global situation.
We have been closely monitoring the evolving pandemic, following WHO’s and other institutional recommendations, and it is now clear that travel restrictions will probably apply in the upcoming months, and our work, family and personal life will still be affected.
We have therefore decided to postpone our annual congress one full year, to June 2021. It has been a difficult decision after so much time and effort invested in preparations, but we believe it is the best option for our members, attendees, and sponsors.
The new dates will be 9-11 June 2021, and the congress will be held in Madrid in the same venue (Hotel Tryp Atocha). The highlights of the programme will be on, with content updated, and a new session on COVID-19 will be included.
All accepted abstracts for 2020 will remain accepted for Madrid 2021, with authors offered the possibility of updating their results if necessary. The abstract portal will open again in the last months of the year for new abstracts to be submitted. The format of presentation (oral or poster) may be adapted or changed to fit the new programme requirements. Delegates will also have the option to withdraw their abstract if they no longer wish to present.
SIS-E will adapt to the current times and will rise to the challenges through collaboration with other scientific societies, education, and on-line activities. Please stay tuned for updates on our webpage and social media.
We look forward to seeing you all in Madrid 2021 and will be in touch with further updates in due course.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, please stay safe.
